Coyote got lucky today :(
« on: September 25, 2010, 12:21:18 PM »
So i went out for grouse again this morning and low and behold i saw a rabbit! It was sitting on top of a downed log, i would have had a perfect shooting lane except for one thing, i haven't bought my small game license yet  :bash: so i tried to get a pic of it and it ran away. I'm thinkin it was prob a hare, chocolate brown and it was up there in elevation.

Only kicked up one ruffed today which is really crappy for this spot so i called it quits early-as I was within 300 yards of my rig exhausted from my fruitless 5 hr hike and i caught a large animal coming down the embankment at 30 yards, trotting, immediately i thought it was a deer, but turned out to be the biggest coyote i have personally seen, i wanted to shoot really bad but i didn't because i had #6 bird shot loaded for grouse, i probably broke the worlds fastest ammo swap in history but the Wiley got away today.

It was a great day none the less and it was good to see the creature that leaves the crap in the middle of logging roads.

Here's a winning strategy  ;). You only need one shot for grouse, right (!)? Make the second round that loads T-shot. Cook off the birdshot to get a coyote's attention (better than any chicken-shi* whistle) and then let him have it with the second round.  Problem solved.  :chuckle:

I don't know aobut you but i would have burned that yote with as amny rounds as i could bet off...
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I really wanted too, it was a tough call but i have no regrets in my decision, cause if i was the yote, i would not want to be blasted with #6 birdshot. Im sure i would have only wounded him, i may have been able to slow him down enough to get a follow up with buckshot, but i didnt want to take that chance, hopefully he will be near the same drainage and ill blast him tomorrow
