Fishing Prep almost as good as the Fishin?

I was sitting here today building jigs, both adding to my coho jigs for this year and getting my stinky pinky jigs ready for next summer.  I think I came to the realization that preparing for the fishing is "almost" as much fun as the fishing.  There seems to be something satisfying by having a nice collection of gear and hooking up a fish on something you have built yourself.

Here is a little collection of jigs, spoons and spinner's I have built in the last month.  I put my big box of spinners somewhere where I would not loose them, I will just have to remember where I put it and will post a pic of some of those as well.  Put up some pic's of some of your work as well.  I always enjoy seeing someone else's work, you always seem to get idea's and tips from just looking.

I've thought about making my own spinners.  Do you buy the kits or just a bulk set of spoon/beads/wire/hooks? What do you use for turning the loops in the wire?  Just like reloading ammo, It looks to be a whole lot cheaper to make your own than buying production stuff. Plus the factor of catching something on what you've created.

I have always tied my own flies and agree that the satisfaction of catching on one of your own creations.  Always wanted to make spinners.  do you buy the parts locally or order them online?

You should incorporate some small pink worms to some of those fluffy pink jigs. Or those bullet head pink heads with a pink or hot pink worm. Coho as well a steelhead will come to those!

I like it!  I was thinking something else when I read the topic.  I pictured in my mind the 6 hours and 12 pack later it takes me every spring to cut all my old knots off my lures.  Grab each lure individually and say, "I should use that when...." but still use the old stand by lures.  Either way, I used to tie my own flies with a cheap little kit.  Never any good and never caught anything on them but i enjoyed it none the less.

I use a wire form machine now days.  I used to do it with round nose plyers, but the machine makes it a lot cleaner proccess.  I order the parts bulk for the most part, as it is much cheaper when ordering in bulk.  When I need just a few of this that or the other thing I will pick it up local as I would rather buy local when I can.  I changed my maribou jig tying style to the palmer method and like how they have more "body" than my old way of tying them.

I make way way more than I need for fishing, but I like building them so I probably end up spending way more money on it than if I just went and bought a few pre-made lures at the store.

Big Papa I have a nice collection of pink grubs and worms, I usually rig them carolina style for metalheads, but might have to try combining it with a maribou jig.  My next project will be making jig heads.  As I can save a bit of cash making my own instead of buying jig heads in bulk (which has became harder to find).  I used to pour my own rubber worms but have not done that since I moved to the wet side, no good walley or bass fishin over here.


I finally found a lead on a cheap toaster oven so I can get back into doing small production runs of powder coated jig heads, which means more jig heads, more jigs, more powder coated lures etc etc etc, hmm maybe its a disease!

I've caught fish on all those patterns, except the shrimp heads and the 3 egg.  I justed started making those patterns so have not fished them yet.  The shrimp head I am going to try on pinks in the salt this next summer, the 3 egg pattern I "think" should work as the "egg sack" pattern has been very succesfull on sea run dollys and I have also picked up sea run cuts on the pattern.

Oh also the cactus chenille is a new pattern so can't say if that will work or not either.
