Ah, those rookie ML mistakes
« on: October 03, 2010, 04:55:32 PM »
Left for ML elk,  a couple of miles from home, I realized I forgot the bullets.
Opening morning, I put a patch into the barrel, only to lose it. Had to remove the breech plug. Unfortunately, it was 5:30am and dark.
I put the wrong end of the breech plug wrench in and removed the nipple, in error, which I drop and had to search for about 5 minutes.
I put the nipple back on, screw the breech plug in and pour the powder and push the bullet in.
I wait for daylight for the primer. It takes a couple of minutes since the primer is so small. After hunting for several hours I happen to look and see that the primer is missing. Apparently I did not seat it well.
I did put a ballon over the barrel to keep out moisture and kept the rifle upside down to keep moisture out of the nipple.
Unfortunately, I did not see or hear anything and now am at home getting ready to return to work on Monday.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

I am going ML next year.  I am sure I will post the same story.  Makes for a great camp story around the fire in the future.  Thanks for sharing

Oh no! Well, it made for an entertaining read!
I didn't have any problems with my ML, and I still didn't see anything!
