Need Gun Smith for AR - Snohomish/ King County
« on: October 09, 2010, 05:25:10 PM »
Need a good AR smith anywhere between Bellevue and Arlington.  I tried to swap the front sight out on mine but can't get the taper pins out of the factory sight.  I've bent two different punches, tried heating with a torch, soaking in penetrating oil, and even ground down the front one with the dremel - can't get them to budge :bash: :bash: :bash:.... and yes I know they only come out one way.  I figure I better get it in a pros hands before I screw something up beyond the pins.

Any suggestions?  I live in Granite Falls, but work in Hellevue.....
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

Hey did you know those are tapered???  Just kidding.  There is a gunsmith here in town just west of the high school but I cant remember his name. There is a sign in front of his house on the south side of the road.
Also the smith up at Norpoint range in Arlington (Hwy 9 and 172nd) is good and very nice. He has helped me a few times and hasn't charged me.
What kind of AR? I have a Bushy and my pins come right out. Have you owned this since new? Is it possible the pins were put in backwards by someone else or the wrong pins :dunno:  Maybe the end is mushroomed a little? Good luck BTW puting a torch on your sight/barrel bad idea.

The Pins should be punched out from the left side to the right.

I brought my shotgun to classic precision in snohomish last year.  Larry Conley was his name business number is 360 688-9409.  He did a fine job with my shotgun.

Thank guys. Bought it new in May. Hasn't even been fired yet. It's a Del-Ton.  I am hearing some of the mass producers press their pins in and even throw loctite on em :bash:. Nothings working so far. Probably have to have them pressed out.   :bash:

The torch idea came from suggestions on other sites - firearms sites.  Only put the torch to the bayonet lug, not the barrel or upper part of the site.  Barrel never got too hot to touch bare handed.  I'm sure it gets a lot warmer when putting a bunch of lead down range in a hurry.  Wasn't real thrilled about trying it, but was running through almost all my options.  Only thing I did not try was drilling the pins out - too risky - too likely to hit the barrel in my mind.

I also highly recommend West Coast Armory in Bellevue.  They have an onstaff armorer and did a great job with my AR this past year.  They are just off of Richards Rd off of I-90 near where the old WSI used to be.

Went to West Coast Armory since I now work just up the street (this is going to end up costing me some $$$)
They told me it would take a couple of days to get to it and that their minimum charge was $35 and that it shouldn't be a big deal to get the pins out - I'm thinking "great, here we go - KACHING!"
I get a call an hour later telling me it's ready - with tax out the door was $41 and change. :IBCOOL:

Thanks for the recommendation guys.

I've been pretty impressed with the staff at West Coast Armory.  Although I wasn't as lucky to get out as cheaply as you did the last time I took my M4 in:  New CMT A4 upper, low profile gas block, VTAC Extreme 13" battle rail, Troy front and rear folding battle sights, and a Surefire Scout light.    ;)
