Which FoxPro Electronic Caller?
«
on:
October 10, 2010, 12:17:25 AM »
I'm willing to spend the money, but I don't know which FoxPro Caller is the one to get. All I know is that I want to be able to download new calls onto it from their site, and i'd like to be able to type in the call number on my remote, without having to scroll; but other than knowing these few things, i don't really know where to go from there... anyone have any suggestions?

well if you want to type in a number vs scrolling then youll have to get the model above the spitfire. if you dont mind the scrolling you can get the spitfire. the spitfire isnt quite as loud as the other model above it but its not much quieter. you can hook an external speaker upto the spitfire if you are concerned with being loud.
the biggest difference between the spitfire and the model above it (the name is just escaping me at the moment) is that the spitfire holds 24 sounds and the other one holds i believe it was 48 or 50 sounds. however you can easily change the micro SD card in the spitfire to change the sounds while your in field. i have 2 cards for my spitfire so that gives me 48 sounds in the field. its a slight more in convenience but for 200$ savings i can live with that.
if you got any other questions shoot me a PM and ill answer them as best as i can.

Go to the Foxpro site, go on the forum, read and ask questions.

Fury , CS 24 or prarie blaster are the only models that will allow you to enter numbers for sound selection , all other models are scroll or push button to toggle thru sound selection .

Consider the Kanatitek callers. Very flexible, very efficient. I like mine.

Let me start off by saying that Foxpro makes a great product and has very solid service as well. With that being said, I think too many people are a bit tech or gadget crazy. You electronic caller guys out there.....how many sounds will you use in a day? How critical is it that you punch a number vs scroll through the ones on your play list?
I think a decent sounding caller with decent volume that holds a dozen sounds is all you need. I don't think that I'm much different than most and use less than 5-6 sounds 90% of the time.

I bought the Spitfire because it was the best bang for my budget. If I could have I would have got one that could hold more sounds for sure. Gringo31 is right that most of us will have our go-to sounds that we use most but having the ability to have more sounds is really important to me. Just distress sounds alone could easily fill up a dozen slots. Jackrabbit, cottontail, woodpecker, fawn, rodent, elk calf, blue jay, kitten, chicken and so on. There are lots of people calling now and having different sounds to try out might be what it takes. Coyote vocals could take another half dozen with locator, group howl, female howl, whimper, pup distress, challenge. Rainshadow1 makes a CD with 10 different cougars sounds. If you want to use your caller for crows or raccoons without changing cards, a caller able to hold more sounds is better also.

Gringo is correct for the most part But ill tell ya having the huge sound library i have has helped me thru the year many many times .
I get called out to call areas that ranchers have let their friends, neighbors and the friends of friend call after being told they could get the job done.
I run into alot of educated coyotes and have to do alot of specific(single out the problem) animal control work .
When your out to do a job for someone on educated coyotes having a specific library of (you know what works sounds) at your disposal is worth its weight in gold .
for me a FoxPro with a big sound library is a must .

as far as elec calls go. i tend to use about the same 3-5 calls for each animal i call for. i also use a lot of mouth calls/howlers during breeding season and pupping time.
