Using Lucky Bird?
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:25:07 PM »
After hearing others talk about "Lucky Bird" and having someone suggest it to me for eastern WA calling I just downloaded it onto my Firestorm.

Any tips on using it most effectively?  Since it's a woodpecker distress should I start out low volume (in case anything is close. I do that with rabbit distress) for a few minutes, then pause a few, call again at higher volume, pause a few, call again for a few minutes with decreasing volume?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

i just run it continuously since then the coyote when running up has something to look at away from me, but also i am on the wet side so may be different,  they will be focused on the call not you, lower volume as they get close.  mess with them, losing one may benifit you if you mess with volume, maybe change to a preset sound test it on one and learn something and see what happens.

Thanks for the info. I'll try some different things and see what works best for me.

I am wondering if one of those whirling woodpecker decoys might be good to use with this sound? Pretty cheap, and from a vid I saw it looks like it is highly visible.

if so look on predator masters, there is a way to mod them to make them better, slow them down/extend battery life. some people swear by decoys and some swear by not using them.  they can hold up a predator or make one nonstop run in at it.
