Go scuba diving! Took my wife last summer and she had a blast. It was her first time underwater.

Research the internet and when you get there talk to the locals!!

When I lived in Hawaii back in the late 90's a guy my dad used to work with would take me out with him fishing at night from the shore. We would use squid to catch hammerheads that were on average 2 feet in length. It was alot fun, they fight good. The only thing with them is they stink like hell! We did catch some barracuda's, blowfish and even a moray eel once that was like 6 feet long. If you really want a thrill you could go snorkel and spear fish at night. I went once with him and it was a bit spooky but I had a blast. You got to have some big cojones to do that though! Like skyvalhunter mentioned ask the locals when you get there. They would be the ones to point you in the right direction.

First cool factor... No Lic necessary for ocean fishing!  :IBCOOL: 2nd no native is gona tell you Howly A$$ anything...  :twocents: I say go to walmart when you get there buy a $30 mask snorkel fin kit, and a $25 spear.... The water was too murkie when i was in Kuai and it took me too long to figure out there was no Lic necessary.... only freshwater fish. There are good books that will tell ya where to go.  :twocents: You do have to be able to identify the different kind of fish.... they have an identification page on thier web site.

Good Luck!

Never fished from shore there, but inshore fishing is the way to go.  Much more action than offshore.  Fishing Is For Fools was there last week and caught these.

We went out with Lucky Strike Charters. They were great and we caught a few fish. I have been to Maui a couple of times and there is much more to do than just sit on the beach.

During the winter months they have "share boats".
they charge around $150 each for 6 guys on a boat to fish marlin and mahi-mahi.
I did it in Oahu. Fun times.
check the charters, see if they have any going.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

First off Special T it's HAOLE and secondly if you have spent any kind of time there you would know not all locals have that attitude.

True enough... My spelling sucks especially Hawaiian.  I went to Kauai and most everyone was nice... But then again i didn't ask for anyone's honey hole.  :twocents: I had a really good book that told me where to go... It also said to tread softly because many of the "hidden places" were local hangouts where they could get away from the tourists.... Maybe the bigger islands are different.  :dunno: I can tell you that after going to Mexico NUMEROUS times, Hawaii is the vacation spot for me!
