Late elk season

Ok, this year is the first try for late elk with a bow.    Yakima starts 11/24 and Colvill starts 11/25. I am still undecided on where to try. Never been over in Yakima. Hit Colville/49 degrees north in early season, and had some luck, but very brushy.

Anyone with advise on elevation to find them if (when) there's snow? Also any tips for techniques would be great since rut will be over. Many old timers advise they can call elk in year round with a soft cow call, but as I said, late season is new to me.

Any advice would be great......even if someone would let me tag along I would be happy to help pack yours out in exchange for any helpful tips.....and find my own spot to hunt based on any tips given.

i know from my first expierence last year in rimrock that they are call shy and their tracks when there was snow was running towards the elk feed station and they are trickey to sneak up on. one way to get em just by talking wth other people is sit in a area have other hunters push em in ur direction... i too is still learning these tricks so i cant really be much of help

that late season for elk is a pig and a poke. I'd be hopeing that this snow holds off till thanksgiving hunt as low aspossible and hope for late movers .

Its hard to say where the elk will be in the late hunt.

soft huchie to locate, then stalk.If they are in the area, they will "bark" kinda. dont over use! just to locate!

It seems to work well for me in late season, even when others have not. I haven't seen them run the other way from it, any call can be over used.

One thing I do know is that if you don't use your calls they will never work.  In my experience of hunting late is to use the wind and rain to still hunt.  I do have my mouth call in at all times to stop an elk if need be

A lot of guys road hunt in the wetside...that must be effective for them because so many do it

For late season, I have found that if I have a few days, I try to spend the first day or two just covering as much ground as possible to see what kind of sign is around. From there, I pick my places to concentrate on and then still hunt very slowly and methodically because unlike earlier in the season, they seem to be out and about more throughout the day and not just the first and last hours of light.

That part of being overused is the key... still prefer a diaghram call myself.

I hope for snow and drive till we cut tracks and get on them, moving slowly and using soft mews

I'd recomend hiking the ridge tops to cut tracks , If you can find a ridge  that run east and west , you may catch up . Seems to me when the elk move its manly at night making real tough to trackem down , if you find freash tracks right at first light you may have a chance . if not just add coco mix to the snow and make some track soup.

I might be depends on the weather.  My trailer is parked at a buddies cabin at elk heights.  If we get a lot of snow That's Where I will be.
