Not very good glass for that power level.
I'd stick with a lower power fixed power

Yes, I have one of these binoculars.  They are a prety small decent glass with very good optics @7x.  The depth of field is a little shallow for a 7x and the stray light control could be better, but they are pretty good at 7x.

The 12x is a bit of a different story.  While 12x is a lot easier to hold steady than I anticipated it would be and while it is pretty decent @12x, it is not as good as it is @7x.  The 12x can be sort of dim in less than good light and in practical use does not reach as far as one might think 12x would reach.  So don't go thinking the 12x is going to pass for a mini-Big Eyes setup.  It won't do that.  Now the 12x is pretty useful, but it is best for getting detail you can't quite get with the 7x, not so much as getting the same detail you get at 7x at longer disatance.  Hope that makes some sense.

So the thing is they are best used as a 7x glass with the ability for the occassional 12x switch up in magnification.

I have way too many binoculars and I think I'll sell these.
