New to goose hunting
« on: October 30, 2010, 09:22:25 PM »
Wanting to start hunting geese around skagit county/Mt Vernon.  Never hunted waterfowl etc before only big game and grouse.  Any tips would be helpful.  Tactics, Areas, Internet resources, etc.

And also what do I do after the shot.  Cleaning etc. I know I may sound ignorant but none of my family has ever hunted birds and I know you cant clean them like a grouse lol

i am not sure of the area. here is a few tips for ya. you can go to fish and wildlife and use there go hunt program and find some areas that maybe be open, in the area you want to hunt. 2 of the most productive ways to hunt geese is to jump shoot or decoy them. if you are going to decoy them a good quality layout blind can be worth its weight in gold. good quality decoys are a must as well. for goose hunting i like at least BB shot. they are tuff birds to bring down. you can use lighter but i have had the best results with bb-bbb loads. you might look threw some old posts and see if you can find some info in there as well. hope this helps ya out. welcome to the addiction :IBCOOL:
