i found a place thats selling the tikka t-3 in wood stock for 615.00 w/ tax for the 30-06. this price sounds like this would be a good deal. checked wholesale sports and cabelas. i can get the stainless model for 589.00 before tax in the same caliber. all the things i have heard from other people on here for a rifle under 700.00 has leaned me to this. as ive heard this gun shoots factory ammo pretty good. any one use the rings that come with the gun or should i toss them and get some leupolds. just wondering about the rings before i mount a scope on them with these. thanks

they are a super gun. you can use those rings or toss them. they will work just fine.

i need to stop looking at guns every time i play with them i end up buying one. my wife is going to kill me for buying this one. i pick up the wood model tommorow. i looked at it tonight man that wood stock looks good on that rifle. the price was pretty much was the best i seen at 615.00 w/tax could not pass that up. can wait to shoot it. my next is a ar i was looking at bushmaster yesterday. i need to slow down this addiction.

I have 3 T3's lite now. Rings are ok but suggest replace with a quality ring like warne or leupold. They really shoot well for a rifle under $1,000

did you use the leupold rings on the rail on the gun where the tikka rings are now or did you just use the leupold rings and bases? i will be gettng a bush master ar-15 its on my list soon. just have to let the wife settle down a little first.

My Tikka T3 30-06 has killed eight elk, three pronghorns, and two deer.  I never replaced the mounts it came with.  That gun is just plain good.

replace the rings on the magnums, anything else should be fine.

I'll second what WASTKSLINGER said.  Magnums need diff rings with a base, the stock rings will shear the pin from the recoil.

The wood stocked t3's are free floated and the synthetic ones are not. I have a synthetic in 338 federal and the best rings for it are the deadnutz.

All T3 are free floated. I use stock rings on all mine and everyone I know does. they are fine, yes I ahve magnums.

I am sure they would be fine in most cases. But it just seems like those rings could walk on you over time with the recoil. For me it was peace of mind to spend another $60 on quality rings, I had already spent $1000 so $60 was cheap insurance for the long run.

I own a Tikka T-3 Lite .270 in stainless and synthetic.  It is the first rifle I have owned and I couldn't be more happy.  My first time shooting it out of the box put a grouping of three inside 1.5".  For someone with not much experience, I was extremely impressed.  I kept the stock rings and have used them for 4 years now with no isssues.  I shot my first animal this year and have plans for many more.  It has shot everything I've put through really well, including the Remmington Core Lokts in multiple grains.  I am glad the guy at Wholesale Sports swayed me to this rifle.  You won't be disappointed.

I am very impressed with the accuracy. Most people I know have no problems being less than 1" after they found the right load. Some are even close to 1/2"

Out of curiousity how many times a year do you shoot your Tikka?

i have not looked back at this for a little while, but i will x2 on on the mag/standard thought. if using a mag i would change the rings, have we ever had any problems with the factory rings NO. they have worked just fine. we have put many rounds threw the 270 we have because it gets used by 2-4 people. lots of rounds go down range, every year out of that gun. never have we had a problem with the rings, or the gun not hoding zero.

300wsm     300-350 (experimenting with loads, not real thrilled so far)
300wm        100 ( my butt kicker all round kill anything rifle)
of course that leaves out several people I know who shoot them and the guys my brothers store sold to, and I mounted scopes and sighted in rifles for. I have been shooting for over 50 years and thousands of rounds. I have some idea what I am talking about and also recognize the difference between what works and the snob factor.

interesting side note.... Just pulled the swivel stud out of my 2506 T3, prepping it for my wifes muley hunt.  Was attaching a bipod and it stripped right out of the plastic  .  Anyways, took the stock off, to see if the stud goes through, it doesn't so applied some epoxy.  I hope that will work    Anyways, while taking it apart, figured I'd test the trigger pull, since I haven't dinked with it.  The prior owner tuned it down, so I used my scale on it, it was breaking VERY cleanly at 2lbs 13oz.  I can tell you, I test triggers quite a bit, and have never seen a stock trigger break so clean.  It was always 2lbs 13 oz, after 10 tries.....  Also curious, when re-assembling, do you do the rear screw first, then the mid screw, or vice versa, can't find the owners manual right now.

Be very careful with the recoil lug, I turn the gun upside down, set the lug into the slot on the barrel then put the stock down over it. I mark the slot position of the action screws before I disassemble, return to the same.

I have never gotten into the winchesters. My grandfather did give me a 1954 Model 94. And two Model 90 pumps, one is 1927 and one is 1930. In good shape too. I better hag on to them and pass them down if I want to stay i the will.

I own a 30.06 and a .223 love 'em both. BTW I am a big fan of Leupold scopes and rings, but I'd have to say that the Tikka rings are probably equal to Leupold.
