first year for a muzzy
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:11:05 AM »
This is my first year for "front stuffing" and had a good season, harvested a 2x3.  I have a .50 cal Lyman Trade Rifle shooting 270gr Powerbelts with 90grs of Pyrodex RS.  My 50yrd shot took out both shoulder blades and a lung... (little high and lead a little to much).  I was thinking this would work for elk also but after reading this posts I might try something bigger.  Used my 44cal 1851 Navy for the follow up shot and broke his back... didn't have to chase him.. :IBCOOL:..Didn't have my camera for pics... packed light for a long steep hike :bash: (wont do that again) I had to qrt it and pack it out.

I would suggest that you check the muzzleloading rules.  Shooting the deer with your .44 cal revolver was
not legal.  The rules state "A muzzleloading handgun used for for big game must be .45 caliber or larger.

hmm.. thanks for the info Willy.... I didn't know this.  I checked the Regs, becouse I only used the .44 to "dispatch" after shooting It with my .50cal I was legal.

yeah muzzy is the only way to go switched to it 7 years ago.  The only draw back is a lot of people are figuring out and changing over.  Thus the crowds again. :(
Happiness is being in the woods!!!
