Good question, I'll be watching your post to see if anyone reply's.  I can't find a good spot to start either, every open unit looks like a deer unit.  Hopefully we can get some clue's on where to go.

There aren't any good elk units open for muzzleloader on the east side of the state. If you want to hunt elk in the late muzzleloader season you need to buy a westside tag. Even then, there aren't many good options, but at least there are a few units that do have elk in them.

As soon as I get my blues tag, I no longer will hunt the east, I know it's better with a permit on the east side but I'm not waiting another 16 years for a big bull tag. That's if I draw next year, who knows how long I will have to wait to draw.  I'd rather hunt the west and have a chance at crackin a branched antler bull every year then wait all this time and be stuck hunting spikes till I'm an old man.  I know that's the way it is and wouldn't want it changed if it meant changing the quality of the bull hunts in the blues which are the best anywhere.  Pretty sure the wolves will take over there quickly, so I hope I draw very soon.
