I'd say east of Kamiah in central ID. I've never hunted there but a friend lives there and says its awesome alot of guides hunt HWY 12. Check it out on google earth. I would love to go.... Maybe i just might if i dont get laid up this rodeo season
Bull Riding and hunting are my life!!!

I like to check the hunting stats, see what is productive, get the success rates. Also check the draw units and what is tough and what isn't.

From what people have told me the panhandle has good elk numbers with the fewest wolves. I did not have much luck but this year but it was my first year hunting elk in ID so did not expect much. I did learn a lot though which will be good in the future..

Idaho is over the counter with no draw.  Panhandle is lots of elk and few people.  Hunt it every year past 5 years with 100 percent success.  You will not regret the time and effort.
It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.

Wherever the wolves arent. You will find that some drainages are great hunting one day and nothing but wolf tracks the next.  We just quit hunting Marble creek/Freezeout junction after my dad had been there for 25 years. Had a friend who just bailed out on Lolo area after hunting there for many years, all due to wolves. Theres a couple of places not to go. Good luck!

 :yeah:

The wolves in Lolo, parts of the St Joe drainage and around Clarkia are silly bad. The best thing you can do is look at the Idaho Fish and Game reports. They have detailed maps showing every established wolf pack in Idaho. You should have a great hunt if you stay in the panhandle, and away from all the dots on the wolf map!

The roads in Idaho are mostly gated but you can take Motorcycles behind them. We had good luck taking bikes in deep, then spike camping in a few miles from there. Tags are over the counter but the best units sell out early, with the exception of this year. Because of the wolf problem and economy they had thousands of left over tags. If they manage to lift the ban, you can burn your deer tag on a wolf or bear if you dont buy a seperate tag. Cool that you can start with an elk and deer tag and know you can hunt anything if you happen across a trophy. Some amazing country and big Bull tags over the counter make for a great trip. Good luck!
