Last minute chrome...
« on: April 05, 2008, 07:28:14 AM »
Finally had a window on Thursday to make the sudden four hour drive up to the Queets. By the time my dad and I decided to go, we didnt get up on the river until about 3:30. We dumped in and within the first three minutes my rod went down. Fishing ended up being pretty good. We went 3 for 8. Its tough to keep em on with single barbless hooks. I had a huge hen on we figured was 20 to 22 lbs. but she bent my hook pretty good on a smokin run and came off. We pulled out about 8:00 and by the time we hitched a ride back to our truck to get the trailer, grabbed a bite to eat and get some fuel, I got home at around 2 a.m. :IBCOOL: It made a long day, but its always worth it. Here are couple pics.

Great story and pics.
One question though. I thought it was against the law to remove nates from the water for the grip & grin? Or was that only for salmon?

Congrats, nice looking fish and pictures.  All the rivers are closed around here now.  Thanks for posting.

Nice Feeesh! The Queets is my all time favorite and i didn't even get up there this year  :'(  I believe if the dorsal is less than a credit card  it's considered a hatchery fish although those look very wild. Those fish look like they were handled with care. Unlike the gillnet that had the second one.

You are correct. It is illegal for Salmon and Steelhead.

Yup, your not supposed to remove them from the water, but I do for the three seconds it takes to get a picture. You are also allowed to keep one native fish from "some" of the rivers up there, but I never have kept a single one. Your not allowed to keep a single native on the Queets. With barbless singles and a glove to steady the fish and they are treated very gently.  It doesn't hurt em if you know what your doing. Thanks guys!
