Hunting Mashel Unit
« on: November 11, 2010, 06:23:15 PM »
I am heading out near elbe where we used to hunt way back when.  Is there any information you can share with me for a spot to hunt elk.  I know HWY 7 up to elbe ashfor and mineral.  We used to hunt pleasant valley road.  Anywhere near any of this is great for me.  Please share any information you can.  Thanks.

I live fairly close by and deer hunted before work a few days a week last year in the late ML season on scott turner rd area and never saw any elk all the time I spebt up there, but I know of 2 bulls taken so far this year there.  They used to be in the fields on private property on the way up scott turner nearly everyday years back but they haven't been there much last few years, kinda weird.  But there is a few in the legal state land.  The elk are few and far between anymore in that area.  I think a lot of them stay in the hancock area where they know they are safe.  Copper creek out of ashford probably holds the most elk in the mashel unit, especially if you get some snow to push them out of the park.  Doesn't look like the snow will happen though.

Ya 74 is washed out maybe 4 miles or so up the road and does not look like it could ever be fixed, its a big washout.  You can walk around it though.
