WINSTON CREEK
« on: November 13, 2010, 06:32:31 PM »
Well I left last Friday Morning a day before Modern Elk Season and headed to the Winston Unit with my dad and brother. My Dad is a Disabled Vet so we stayed at Ike Kinswa State Park off Hwy 122. (All Free of Charge) We all hunted hard everyday and didn't see any bulls. My brother had a cow tag last year for Winston and we couldn't find any cows. This year they were all over the place... We ran into a big cow opening night just before dark. Then we spotted a cow on a clear cut with reprod and watched her for 45 mins. Come to find out there was a big spike with eye guards below her with 3 other cows that we never seen until later that night. WOW... Were we looking hard through our binos and scopes for a 1 inch 3rd point on that bull. Never seen one for over an hour of watching him until dark. Before we seen him that night we asked some other hunters if they had a cow tag they said no. 10 minutes later they shot a bull across the ridge from the other side that we weren't watching... That could have been our bull!! Thursday night we stopped to take pictures of us with Mt. St. Helens in the back ground and my brother used his cow call for the heck of it and you may not believe it but he called a Cow in within 50 yards. She was coming right to us with the lost calf call he was using...

Oh well I had fun and had to come home tonight cause I go back to work tomorrow... My dad and brother are going to hunt tomorrow then come home and hunt up in Rainier off Johnson Creek Rd. If we get one we will take plenty of pics and post them on here!!

I wonder if that is the same bull that is hiding out on the Churchill side?   :dunno:

Is he injured? Seems like he was shot by a archery hunter this year? Or is it that he is just so old that he is dieing??

I heard of a big bull in that area with a broken off arrow in, I think, his left shoulder but I could be wrong about where the arrow is.
