Skokomish Archery Rut Tag
« on: November 14, 2010, 05:18:55 PM »
i will never apply for this tag again >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(.....
area has been spotlighted to death no animals moving and cat tracks galore....
the wdfw is using this area as a money maker hoping people spend money applying for a supposed Quality deer tag.  on a side note don't put in for elk permit either very little sign of elk....Even the locals in Matlock can't figure out why it is a supposed quality deer area..

I am going to spend my money hunting in another state next year mainly because of wdfw inability to manage game in this state

And this is a surrprise to you how?? This state has sucked with the wildlife management for over 30 years..They  are more into the money instead of the animals..Hell I'm thinking of pulling my Native American card and hunt year around,,screw buying any more tags..

Being a Monte boy I figured you would know better.  It gets hit hard by the Skoks, Squaxins, tweekers, brush pickers, etc.  There are some good critters in that unit but you have to work for them and you won't find them standing in a clear cut or on the side of the road.  They learned early that just gets you shot at no matter what time of year.  Don't give up on this state, just pick your areas and units more carefully.   :twocents:

There are some nice bucks in that unit. You don't want to focus on the Matlock 800 line area. Move over to the 600 canyon river area, or up towards the spider lake area. Maybe not a quality buck hunt but it is still a good tag if you put in a lot of time. Like Polar said they are not going to standing out in the open.

it has been a good tag in the past however when your getting there at daylight and night shift is leaving the woods there is a problem

We use to do well on the 700 line all the way towards Spider Lake.  Drive the 700, drop over the side and have someone pick you up on the lower road.  My cousin logged that area and he has taken some brutes in the past few years by doing just what I mentioned.  The 700 over to Canyon River is another good one but one brushy mofo.

I say we strike, no one hunting or fishing would brake this states BS!
Fishing is a toxic waste dump in the sound. Hunting management needs to go to arizona and find a way to fight illegal immigrants.(like that would help)
Paddle faster!!,,,,I hear banjo's!!!!
