GMU 113 late muzzleloader
« on: November 17, 2010, 06:51:12 PM »
Anyone going up for the late WT hunt in 113?  I'm thinking about it if I have the time. Looking for a good place to set up the wall tent.

Thanks,

Gadwall.

A buddy and I will be there after Thanksgiving.  We leave Wenatchee friday morning and stay the weekend.  I think this will be the 5th or 6th year we've been there.  Herd is way down, so i don't expect much, but it gets him away from the shop to clear his head a bit.  We oldsters motel it, but there's a nice area to pitch a camp up one of the roads about 8 or 9 miles north of the Indian Reservation near Usk.  Good area to hunt right there, too.  The right side of the road was being logged last year, but the left side was logged years back, and is good Whitetail cover.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

I hunted a couple days in 113 near Usk over Thanksgiving.  It was a bit chilly and a fair amount of snow, maybe 18" or so.  I saw one buck, a spike, and maybe 8-10 does.  Tough conditions really, trees were loaded down and constant fwumph! as they dump down your neck.  It was really hard to sneak quietly in the dry brush and squeaky snow.  Still better than watching movies at the inlaws though.

As I posted earlier, my buddy and I went over to 113 friday and hunted Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning.  Snow was deep and miserable to walk (wallow, actually) in.  Saw 7 deer in all, with a glimpse of a big buck chasing a big doe.  Fortunately, one of my favorite stands is only 50' off the road, so I spent most of my time there.  Thanks to the change in regs, we came home empty-handed.  Saw lots of yearling tracks, so if they make the winter there should be a good deer population next year. :chuckle:

Got home last night and had ~20-24" on the ground.  It's pretty tough up here now.  My wife is going to be after them.  I would recommend hunting pretty low, getting on a track and walking them down.
