Calling sequence time for yotes

I know this has been beat to death, here and other boards.  How long do most of you do your calling sequence, on the eastside, for yotes?  I know when I'm on the wetside, I'll call 30 min before I give up, giving the cats a chance to come in, but on the eastside, I'm rather quick, 15min max.  Am I missing yote opportunities because of this?

i f i think there in the area i stay up to a hour. yes you missing out on some bocat's or coyotes. some of my best memory's of critters ive called is when i stayed later. like turning around and and bobcat was sitting there. that is when i guided. the guy had a camera. i told him i could get it he didnt think i could. i got on a small stump started squeaking on my call he jumped up on a Rotten Log i smoked him at 50 yard's. i was on that stand 50 minutes. it was thick stuff. i prefer well over 30 minutes. It depends on the stand, how big an area I am calling. A little draw or a big canyon. If I am only calling coyotes I call a little shorter than if bear or cat. Cats or bear 30 minute minimum, some times call sit a while and call again.
If I fall asleep as long as 2 hours it's true I confess.

IMO If you're runnin and gunnin for coyotes and using distress 15 to 20 minutes will get 90% of the coyotes, as Bofire said the terrain plays a big part on length of set, same with time of year. If you're using vocals and get responses sometimes you have to work them for 45 min or more to get em in. If you're limited on hunting grounds calling for a longer time would be a good option.  All depends on how you want to play the averages when out calling.

Great answers fellas!  Bofire, I must confess I did a stand a few years ago, was about 90 min before dark.  I fell asleep during the stand, woke up well after dark    Bad thing was, I didn't have a GPS coord of the truck, was flat land, and for some reason wasn't even packing a compass....  Needless to say I lucked out and found my way back (about 2 miles) to the truck.

yotes we like to call for atleast 25-30 mins sometimes more in bigger areas. when we are calling cougs/bobs/bear 45+ is a must, most times we stay a little over a hour. we have killed a lot of critters past the 30min mark.

A good reminder to all that recording the location of your vehicle before striking out is an excellent idea. Knowing where you are at (lat/long) doesn't mean much without knowing where you are going.  I will add, though, that GPS units will tell you which way you are traveling.  If you know, or recall, a safe bearing to take "out", the GPS can work like a compass for you.  It is a good idea to think about that "safety bearing" before you leave your truck.  What bearing would take you back to a recognizable feature like a road or fence line?

That said, I have my baseplate compass on my calling lanyard. If I have to travel any distance, say several hundred yards, out to a dead coyote, I will take a bearing FIRST and then strike out for it (providing it is not in plain view). A reverse bearing can keep me looking along the correct line. It doesn't take many before "all sagebrush look alike".

As the season progresses I stay longer on stands a little longer and remain on the stand 15 min after I shut down the call. Afew times I've left my glasses on a stand and had to hike back and get them and walked up on coyotes noseing around where the caller had been set.

I always wondered if these coyotes are now educated?  Often when going back a few days later to the same stand there is tracks after you left. What do you think?

Educated to the fact that something causing the distress sounds might be bigger than them and wait for things to quiet down before checking it out.  The ones I wonder about are the ones that make a high speed pass by the call and don't even slow down for a wuff or bark then again it may be to check out the situation without getting their butt kicked by something bigger.
