So, are you saying the 7.62X.39 won't shoot in the Ruger Mini? I think more terrorists and Chinese use the AK now than Russians. It's got to be the mose widely manufactured gun in the world.

Besides the AK any other guns that shoot the 7.62X39 that you guys can recommend? I've seen the Ruger Mini 30 but are there others. I have an AK but it shoots terribly and the front wood stock gets so hot I think it's going to catch on fire. I'd like to find one with a nice barrel that can be used as a varmint rifle.

Just out of curiosity, why? It's a pretty lame hunting round. Just curious.

Ballistics are pretty close to a 30-30 at 200 yards, would make a good close range coyote ripper.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

In answer to the question, Why?
I would only use my AK or one of its copies for close range - turn a creep into hamburger. However, if you reload, use the right powder, the right recipe, the right bullet, down a good barrel, in a nice gun with a good scope, and sight it in properly, I don't see why the round wouldn't perform well.
Will it go to 400 yards; No. But that's not what I'm looking for. I'd like to use it to hunt varmints; prairie dogs, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, etc. If I'm going to go to the trouble of reloading a caliber I want to make sure it shoots in more than one gun (except for my .270).

If you eally believe the 7.62x39 round is all that and a box of chocolates, then I would suggest you look into an AR15 in that caliber. Since you are going to reload for it, use new brass and 125 grain softpoints, hollowpoints or ballistic tip bullets in .308 caliber not the .311 as is the standard junk AK rounds. Most of the guys are getting 1-1/2" groups with this combo.
Checkin' wind and makin' smoke.
That's how I roll...
