Went out to Fir Island this morning for a fun filled day of hunting waterfowl

Got there around 0600, and started the walk through the dike system to my favorite spot. Found a nice patch to set up on, and started getting ready for 0700 and the fun to begin. My lab starts acting like a fool, and wouldnt sit or stay for me. He kept looking over my shoulder, and eventually let a growl. I look back dont see anything, and then I hear something coming fast. It was a coyote running straight at us, I shot him him with my steel #2 shot, and he spun and took off. My lab tried to chase him down, but after a few yells he came back. I am not sure how much damage the shot did, hopefully the guy died somewhere. I have never had a yote act that way before, and I was not using any scent control, and was making a racket trying to calm my dog down before the yote rushed us. so there was no way that we suprised him, or spooked him. The walk into that area is over gravel, and that there should have scared anything away for miles. I wonder if it was used to handouts, or was k9 aggressive

After that I decide to move closer to the dike, and sit for a few hours. not many flyers out there this morning

So I am sitting there watching for ducks, when I hear someone up on the dike. It is two people on bikes dressed in some really bright colors. They see me, and one of them says I am sorry didnt see you hunting there. I just couldnt beleive they would ride bikes back there, when there are signs and hunters up and down the dikes. That was total discrepct to the hunters there IMHO. That was it I packed my bags and headed back home. I hope my next hunting trip goes a little better.
