So are you calling him a liar for NOT turning himself in?? He offered to show you paperwork that he did what he said he was going to do, and you didn't look it over too good..I say just drop it..There are some people out there that do make misstakes, and will confess to it..A misstake does not make one a poacher..

I'm getting sick and tired of people trying to get points off someone who just plain and simply screwed up..Try teaching them something instead of trying to screw them all the time..

For one thing, im glad you followed up, and turned him in! If he has a ticket, he will be pardoned the second one(the one u called in).

BUT, why didnt you say anything when you saw the deer carcas???
That makes me sick!! you waited a week for 2 crimes, that could have caught 2 poachers.

It is a crime, not a mistake. He reads the rules and regs like everyone else. These are our deer, we pay out the ass for the rite to hunt them. Take his gun, his truck, and hunting supplies. He told you he had shot at a 3 point, hes a liar and a waistful thief!

Its black and white, NO grey areas when you are talking about poaching

Wow! rjn cajun claimed he was not interested in points, you all need to be a bit nicer to the guy.

I see no problem with anyone coming here to ask. Not all of the folks using this site spend as many hours as alot of us, and some guy posting a question, who seems to be attempting to do the right thing does not need to have his butt chewed over it. Ease up a bit!

Let's just advise as to what should have been the logical thing to do at the time and let it be a learning tool for any newby or lurker, no reason to get personal about it.

IceMan no worries here. I figured the butt chewing was coming for not making the call sooner. But as I sayed of all the years I`ve been hunting and all of them in the same GMU I`ve never had to cross this path. I`m no different then anyone else. I`ve paid out the butt for years on tags and license and follow all the regs and for someone not to pisses me off also. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. So I insured my doubt by calling. If he turned himself in good for him if not he`ll get what`s coming.

1. I think this whole thread is a little crazy, the fact that you waited a week to turn someone in is nuts. Not sure why someone would wait till the second week to do that. If you feel it's warranted make the call, if not leave it alone.

2. Did the guy make a mistake? or was he poaching? You're telling me if "somehow" you made a mistake and shot the wrong deer maybe got an area mixed up (it could happen) you'd turn yourself in? I'm no poacher but if I did happen to make a mistake there's no way in hell I'd walk my butt in to a game wardens office. Just being honest and if you're the person that would turn themselves in you have money to spare and probably don't miss hunting anyhow.

3. Just guessing here but if the guy was a lifelong poacher I'd doubt he'd be do it during season and bring the deer back for everyone to see.

Here we go again.  Are we really going to set another example of why it is so damn hard to post simple questions or what if's on this website?  Shame on many of you arses, the intial post and question was very simple.

DNA  THEY HAVE THE TECNOLOGY   :police:

:chuckle: That's funny.  Just so I don't threadjack I will say in a situation like that turn them in as SOON as possible. I know mistakes are made. Here's an example of an honest mistake.

Years ago, after a late whitetail hunt in which a buddy of mine killed a big 4x5, we came across a check station the game dept had set up. We both pulled over for it (two tagged deer in two different trucks). They wanted to take a brain sample for CWD.....sure, why not. One of the gamies asked my buddy why the head was cut off and if he left the proof of it being a male attached to the hind quarter. OOPS, no it was left with the gut pile. The gamie told him there was no way for him to know that head came from that deer. My buddy said....DNA? There was 5 or 6 gamies there and they kinda chuckled and told him in that situation that is not an option......$$$. They politly told him to leave something attached next time and thanked him for agreeing to the core sample. ALL were great people and congrats were given to him for taking a beautiful buck. No ticket.

Different mistakes call for different actions taken and I am thankfull that a lot of officials know that.
Just one more day

I agree.  By the way they dont always take the animals I know of a few incidences where they didnt take the animal.  I wonder if there is anyone on this site that has ever broken the law? Its crazy to me how everyone on here is perfect?? Ive made a mistake before.
