Shotgun Coating
« on: November 29, 2010, 09:53:26 AM »
I waterfowl hunt on saltwater quite a bit and no matter what I do, my Remington 870 Supermag has light surface rust after just a few hours.  I'm trying to decide whether to Cerakote, Parkerize, or DuraCoat.  It seems like Cerakote is almost twice the price of the others, but I really only want to do this once.  What experiences have you all had? Thanks!

I had a SBE done professionally for about $300.  I also did an 870 on my own with rattle cans from Lowes for 25.00.  I like my rattle can version just fine.  I degreased it really well, then primed it and let it dry a day or so, then went to town with the flat earth colors.  When I scratch the paint, I see the primer and I know it's time to touch it up a little.  I know what you mean about watching the 870 express rust.  I am planning on doing my new 22-250 in duracoat to see if it's as durable as they say.
Nothing witty here.... move along.
