Coyotes and rain

First off I am new to the board.  This is my first post.  So far my coyote hunting has just been taking advantage of an opportunity.  See a coyote shoot it.  Recently I have decided to try calling.  Went out today thinking the snow would make for prime calling.  Well it turned to rain.  2 stands with the Foxpro and nothing.  Don't know if I had a yote in range though.  But I noticed something though.  All of tracks were old.  I have not seen any evidence of new tracks for a few days.  So when it's raining do coyotes hunker down and wait for better weather?  As I think about it I can't recall ever seeing a coyote out in the rain.  I am in the Tri Cities, not the wet west side.

It is a very rare that you will call a coyote in the rain , right after a rain is not uncommon . They tend to hunker down and wait it out .
The weather we have been having with the heavy snow in some areas and the freezing rain it is not uncommon for them to bed down for a day or two and wait out the weather . they know the prey animals are doing the same and wont waist the energy( calories) .
They will be very active once this is over and the freezing rain on top of the snow offers good footing and they can travel without working hard to do it . The bad part about that is we cannot get around without sounding like a heard of bison moving across that crunchy stuff.
the rain as well as gusty winds seems to give them a sensory overload and they dont like not having all the sences working in their favor . Watch what the live stock do and youll pretty much know what a coyote is doing , ever notice the cattle and horses turn their butts to the wind and rain and just stand ther and wait it out till its feeding time ? well there ya go .  hope this helped , jerry .

Thanks.  You confirmed what I was thinking.  With the ice we have now it's also going to be pretty difficult to spot new tracks.

they stink worse in the rain so I dont hunt in the rain.
