Upland Game Around Brewster, WA
« on: December 02, 2010, 05:26:41 PM »
Has anyone had any luck at the wildlife areas around Brewster this year (Indian Dan, Ferry Canyon, Foster Creek).  Spent a weekend at these three places the first weekend of November and didn't see a thing.  Wondering if I am doing something wrong or if there just aren't any birds this year.  I check the WDFW site and the hunting prospects weren't great but last year we pulled a couple and saw a handful of birds at Indian Dan (didn't hunt, Ferry Canyon or Foster Creek).  I am pretty new to upland game hunting, my hunting buddy and his dad hunted these areas when he was a kid so this is really the only spot we use due to lack of knowledge.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

hate to tell ya but the areas around brewster that i hunt have all been horrible the last few years.  i used to hunt the bridgeport bar, foster creek and the strip of DFW land along the okanogan just south of monse when i was in high school and there was always quail, chukars and pheasant now those spots are dead, ive crossed them off of my list for upland birds. im not saying there isnt a single bird in there but its just not worth the time imo.

I agree 100%! Just got back from there and what a sad situation :'(. We hunted a couple spots in the Sinlahekin, the Monse area, and today we stopped at the Bridgeport bar for a while. At the bar I looked into the report box and of the 6-8 cards I could see the only harvested animals were ducks and a goose :dunno:. There was 5-8 inches of snow in the undisturbed areas with the snow being almost a week old and  very few tracks. I will not be making a trip over there for birds again this season. The WDFW has the feeders out and full but there are not many tracks around them.
Bottom line 2 guys and a dog, 800 miles driving, 8-10 miles walking = 1 hen pheasant, 10 quail (only 2 came home with us) a bunch of deer and some pictures of a bunch of big horns. A good weekend but certainly not great.
