Might have part of a case broken off in my chamber?
« on: December 08, 2010, 12:10:01 PM »
So my AR hasnt been wanting to close fully. I tried factory .223 ammo and still have problems plus its heard to open when it does close, I mean like all I can do to get it to open. Its a 5.56 chamber and I can seen a line around the chamber and you can feel a edge with a cleaning rod right where the line is. :'(

They make a tool for the removal of broken cases. Brownell's should have it... maybe even CTD?

The wierd part is that I can chamber a round but its a bear to unload it :dunno: if I shot it there is no problem with it kicking the empty out so Im not sure what the heck is up.

So after all this I went and bought another box of factory ammo and it seems to not jam the bolt. I did clean the chamber for a long time and that line is gone but the reloads still don't fit. So it seems like I got a box of ammo that doesn't work and the reloads don't but this new box is fine. I measured the cases in the reloads against the box that works and the cases measure the same I just can't measure the base to shoulder which has to be what's wrong. I think that line was kind of strange which so did the two other people that looked at it.

We are thinking that maybe the seater die got turn in far enought to touch the mouth of the case and bulged the shoulder a little. As for the factory rounds that dont work I have no clue the other three boxs of factory ammo work.
