Mossberg 935

So I've seen some of the older posts on this subject but I wanted to get some up to date info.  I'm looking at buying a 935 12 gauge 3 1/2 inch.  I want a good all around gun and think that the mossberg will make a great choice.  Has anyone had any problems or complaints about thiers?  Does it cycle everything from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 reliably?

My roomate has that exact gun. shoots great. only thing is it hangs up on 2 3/4 shells when we go skeet shooting. cycles 3" and 3 1/2" with no problems.

just asked, target loads, winchester, federal . everytime. estate game loads every couple loads i.e. every 6th or 7th shot. i do think i read somewhere you could get a lighter spring. but that it was bad to shoot 3 1/2 with.

My brother has one and shooting 3 1/2 wood jam about half the time but no problem with the 3 inch dont know about 2 3/4.

Ok, so with that in mid does anyone shoot a remington 1187 or the Stoeger 2000?

The biggest thing with the 935 is that it needs to be clean.  Keep it clean and well lubed and it should work great.  Break free clp seems to work the best on mine.  Mine will cycle anything over an ounce of shot.  Been shooting pheasant and ducks all season with 2.75" without a single issue.

It won't cycle the light 2 3/4" loads but the hotter loads it will work fine never had any hangups except for the light loads. Never had an issue with 3" or 3 1/2" but after every shoot I always strip the guns down and clean em. It's a good cheaper semi.

So it should shoot most loads just fine as long as the gun is cleaned properly then is what I'm hearing?  That's good to know.  I think I may pick one up next weekend.  Any other info is more than appreciated.

I want it as an all around gun.  Everything from duck and geese to pheasants and quail.

I love my 935. The only problem I have with it, is that if often misses the ducks I shoot at. Damn thing!

I have a 935 all black with not many rounds fired thru it. If you are interested PM me and we can talk, I'm only about an hour south of Spokane. I have a newer Extrema and don't use the Mossberg any longer. No worry, it works good and was purchased brand new then used about 5 times for goose hunting, it just doesn't fit me very well and hate to see it just taking up space in the safe.

Why not just get a 930 and not have to worry about cycling 2 3/4 loads? Believe it or not geese can be killed with 3" shells, turkeys too.

I had not thought about the 930, hell I didn't even know it existed.  I may go with that instead, after all like you said a 3" 12 gauge will kill anything that I would need to shoot at.

Huge fan of mossbergs for meat guns.  935 should have the 10 guage barrel just like the 835.

I would highly recommend the stoeger 2000. That thing is a workhorse and is very well priced. You pretty much get a bennelli, which makes stoeger, for the price of the mossburg. They use the same coating in the barrel as bennelli which keeps them very clean, as well as the same recoil operated action. My brother owns one and has never had a malfunction, shoots target 2 3/4 up to heavy 3" loads. I think they make a 3 1/2" model too. You can throw this thing around and step on it in the boat or field and it still works flawlessly. I hear a lot about mossburgs not cycling very well and having hangups in the mag area, maybe people arent cleaning them but I would go with the better gun for around the same price.

I have the 835 pump and it works fine, shoots anything I want to use. If you go to the Mossberg website and download their specification sheet you will see that the do not support the 2.75 shell for the 935. Now some have used the 2.75 and had no issue but Mossberg does not recommend that length in the gun you are looking at. Also consider that the over bored barrel will not allow slugs to be used for the 835 and the 935. Have fun. Mike

Went with a different brand in the end.  Decided on a Weatherby SA-08.  Seems like a well built gun and had good reviews.  Hard to beat the price which is right at 400.  Shoots good so far, but I only ran one box through it so far.  Only time will tell.

I picked up  935 a few weeks ago. I put about 50 shells through it.  Every duck that came into range dropped with one shot.  It is a very accurate shot gun.  I've had one failure to fire.  Primer was dented, just a dud shell.  All have ejected fine.  I've only used 3 inch shells so far.

I have the 935, and love it. I've had it for threeish years. I started with a 835 back in the day, and hated it because it wouldn't eject federal 3.5 shells, but the fiochi shells did so just shot those. Then I bought a rem 870 mag, and hated it, those kick like mules for some reason. Then one day I was walkin around the sporting good store, saw the 935 and said ahh, I'll buy it. Have not looked back since. it shoots every shell I put in it, ejects them just fine, worst thing I've seen is if it gets dirty it gets sluggish. My favorite part is the thumb safety mossberg does. I've shot my brothers benelli and really don't like it as much, I don't know why cause its a nice gun. I do wish however it had the back bead like my 835, but oh well, I still kill with it, sometimes....

I have had my Mossberg 935 for five years and it has turned out to be a very good dependable shotgun.  A little too heavy for a good upland gun, it performs well for ducks, geese and turkeys.  I did add a Limbsaver recoil pad on it to ease the pain when patterning the gun with 3.5 inch turkey loads!  The picture of Oregon Columbia River Geese shows the 935 and a Stoeger pump.  The Stoeger pump has been retired now and replaced with a Benelli SuperNova Pump with Comfort tech.

Note: I also bought a new Remington 1187 this Fall and it did jam on shooting clays with a target 2 3/4 load.  Did fine with duck and goose loads and has the traditional slim remington grip.
