new load 22-250?
« on: January 13, 2011, 09:35:16 PM »
A buddy of mine gave me a box of Nosler Ballistic tip varmint. They are .224 (spitzer) 55grain. P/N 39526

I want to load them for my 22-250. I went to the nosler web site and they only have 4 powders listed. I can go get the powder they list but I would like to just keep using my hodgdon H4895 that I use for my 50 gr bullets that I have always used.
Can this be done?
How do I find the proper loads if it is a usable powder?
If it is not a usable powder, then I ask why not? Does the makeup of a different bullet make that radical of a change that it is unsafe or does it lose that much accuracy?
When I do find a suitable powder and load-Are these good bullets for coyotes or should i stick with smaller varmints like rock chucks?

As you can tell I am not the brightest tool when it comes to reloading- however the light is on at home and I do not want to make any mistakes( especially the ones that involve someone getting hurt) and that is why I ask.

Ok the hodgdon manual list h4895. Starting load of 32.5grs at 3446fps and 45000 cup. Max 35.5grs 3670fps and 49300cup.
When I had a 22-250 I used the 4064 imr powder and it was accurate with the 55 bt noslers.

They will work great, but don't ever plan on saving or selling a hide with the 55gr. Nosler BT out of a 22-250.

I put 20 together and loaded them with 34.4 grs. As soon as the weather gives a break I'll be out and see how they do.
