Snow?
« on: December 22, 2010, 11:52:28 PM »
Don't know too much about hunting song dogs other than its good to be lucky and got one during deer season. I'm headed up to the mountains this week and want to give it a try I will be in the hills outside of cle elum and figure there will be a foot plus of snow. A friend has a fox pro and is bringing that. During deer season I heard a lot howling and figured I would give that area a try.

Is the hunting good with snow on the ground or do the dogs head lower as it comes?
Any tips for the snow is appreciated.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

At times it is better to hunt them after the first snow or when there is snow on the ground.  Snow kills off the grass hoppers and other natural food they would normally eat.  Hence, they will be a little more eager to come to a distress call as they will be a little more hungry,  Also, they have to eat more often in order to keep warm.  Try to find an area that has not been over called already.  DO not forget, you can howl them in just as easy... they will try to protect their feeding areas now also.
