Unique Coyote Pics
« on: December 26, 2010, 05:41:13 PM »
About 5 years ago I called in an shot the coyote in the pics below. Its right front leg was completely gone and healed over. Its back left leg was deformed. The back leg was really small and non weight bearing. This coyote had 2 working legs and hobbled badly. After skinning him out, I could not see signs of being shot, all wounds were healed. His canine teeth were really worn down. I bet he was real old. I had his hide tanned and now hes on the wall. I bleached his skull too.

I'm curious if anyone has pics or has shot a "special coyote". 2 legged? 3 legged? Deformed?

I like seeing the unique stuff....

About fifteen years ago we saw a three legged coyote by crystal mountain ski resort several times. The pictures I had of him were poor quality and whereabouts unknown. We liked seeing it and decided not to shoot him.

Usually a "tri-pod" is a 'yote that was educated either by a trap or a bullet. They are usually the harder ones to call in. Whats a tribute to their existence, they survive, but they all pass on what they have learned.

When you see them, you should take them out so they don't "teach" any others what they have learned.

Its mutual respect for a survivor.

Killed several tri pods over the years , the wierdest one i ever shot was OLD female up north of Moses Lake .
She had both front paws severly deformed , almost looked like she had broken them at a early age .
The paws were folding back as she ran or should i say hopped in to the call .
She came to the call up a hill toward me , she was hopping like a rabbit , useing her hind legs to propel her forward .
She was real old , i would guess 6 to 8 years , almost no teeth left and skinny as all get out .
I almost felt bad about putting here out of her misery.
The strangest coyote i ever killed has a piece of pvc pipe around its neck , it looked like a coupling connector ? blue pipe , and its belly was orange  still trying to figure that one out , looked like some type of chemical stain to me . this was real close to a bunch of orchards , have picture of it somewhere ill try to find it .  My son called it the rainbow coyote , he was about 5 at the time .

That is pretty interesting. I kinda felt bad after I shot mine too. When I saw him hobbling, I assumed he was wounded. When I got up to him I couldnt believe how bad off he was. PVC around the neck is one i've never heard of... thanks for sharing.

Wow, I almost feel sorry for him.  Probably had a mean ex-wife, too.

I'm guessing the bullet that tore the front leg off, also damaged the rear foot.

If I hadn't seen that very thing happen to a deer, by a guy that sighted in with different ammo than he hunted with, I'd have never guessed it.
