No dogs found in the Colockum
« on: January 01, 2011, 12:11:52 PM »
A group of us spanned out across the Cooke Canyon/Colockum Rd area yesterday (down fairly low) and heard some dogs yipping but no tracks, scat, etc.  No deer or elk either (but I assume they're over in the 329 Quilomene heading toward the peace & quiet of the reserve by the river ).

Beautiful cold day but disappointed we couldn't call in anything.

Ive never had crap for luck with dogs in the clockum cooke area!

Cats, yes (at least Ive seen em and shot at a few), but dogs...never! I always here em during elk season...they even come by shortly after I call and laugh at me in one gully... :chuckle: :bash:

Better luck next time!

Speaking of cats, came across a cool cat trail.  Fairly steep embankment with paw marks coming down.  When it reached the level ground of the trail (which had 12"-15" of snow on it), you could clearly see the 4"-5" width track where the tail dragged.

Oh, yeah, speaking of snow....bring snowshoes!  We weren't so smart.

I always see dogs in the colockum during deer and elk season. I fugured it would be littered with them right now. Shot at a nice cougar last year too.
