What to expect at Robinson Canyon??
«
on:
April 29, 2008, 08:14:51 PM »
My brother and I plan on goin out to Robinson Cayon outside of Eburg this week end to see if we can pick anything up. I used to Elk hunt up there alot. I know that the feeders probubly pick up alot of the sheds and I know people sneak in there and get to them before they open it the public. I think they open the gate May 1st but thats just what I heard. Anyone go up that way and what can we expect?

I guess two guys on 4 wheelers hammered it and Joe Watt for several trips. I never heard if they nailed them. Makes me pissed. I'm not even going to bother this year.

I have never really shed hunted robinson canyon, but have hiked around in there in the spring to see some animals. There are a lot of big bulls and elk all over the place, but is well known, so I am sure locals probably hit it. I did find a two point deer shed a couple years back. If what bone said is true, might not be worth the drive to find sheds unless you just want to get out for the weekend.

I've found some good ones there but this year I decided to sign up for a double that day at work. Pay for this Montana thing. I would recommend it. I assume you know abouthte snakes. They will be out now.

I try to hike the Joe Watt area every opening day, it can be frustrating, all the people and no antlers. It is true, not all are found, I keep telling myself that as I walk around. I'm not going to find any in town. I don't know why I always have to do it, besides, I hope I have some photos to share at the end of the day. I have said several times before...I don't understand why people go to such lengths for the most antlers...prices are way low. I will be happy finding one or two antlers just for the fun of it. Selling antlers has got to be a losing business these days.
Anyway, I will try to walk off the soles of my boots, or until my knees ache too much. If you go up Robinson, definitly cover a lot of ground and try not to get down if you don't turn up any, you could just happen to turn left and there one lays.

Really it just comes down to finally being able to get out. As corny as it sounds, its all about the smell, sounds and sights of being in the outdoors after all the snow and cold melts away!! It would just be a big bonus to find some horn!

Good luck buddy on the Horn findings. I'll be thinking of you while i am in alaska bear hunting. Maybe we can go mid month just to get out. All three of us haven't hung out in a while. Talk to you soon.
Hope the people that snuck in didnt take them all.

Just a heads up. Last I heard the road (inside the elk fence) has a new gate on it which will be locked. Have to hike up from the bottom. The gate went up due too a Golden Eagles nest along the road. Gate will open after the brood, I guess. Good luck, I'll be working
