No luck on the coyotes...again

I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong or if luck is just against me. Any feedback about what I'm doing wrong or anything I could do in addition to what I'm already doing would be great!
Went out early this morning for more coyote hunting. Parked the truck 3/4 mile away from my first stand. My first stand is in the shadow of a rock overhang that overlooks a medium sized pond, and on the other side, about 10 square miles of sagebrush. I was very quiet coming in and closing the doors of the pickup etc. I did walk down the main path though. Maybe I should sneak in more? I settled for 5 minutes then began my first sequence of rabbit in distress on a hand blown call. I kept the first sequence to low-volume screams and called for about 15 seconds. After two minutes I called again this time for about 20 seconds. I then did my 3rd sequence for about 20 seconds. No coyote. I repeated this sequence for the rest of my stands which were all in remote farm country. I talked to the farmer after calling and he said he heard the coyotes howling the night before down in the area I was in. Frusturated after calling 7 stands, I headed home.

     I feel like I've done my homework in regards to this whole predator hunting thing. My calls aren't great but they're not terrible either. I went to the predator hunting seminar here in kennewick and have gotten several videos and practiced my calling. This is my 5th time out without seeing a single thing although I know there are coyotes in my hunting areas. Anyone have any thoughts? Tips? I was hunting north of Pasco in farmland.

YOU'RE NOT NECISARELY DOING ANYTHING WRONG,  THE FIRST TIME I EVER WENT OUT CALLING, ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO I BOUGHT A RABIT DESTRESS CALL FROM GRIGGS,  AND WENT OUT.. DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TO CALL,  JUST BLEW INTO THE CALL,.. AND IN LESS THAN 5 MIN, I WAS ALMOST RAN OVER BY A YOTE.  IT GOT AWAY THOUGH,  AND I HAD TO CHANGE MY SHORTS, NOW I KNOW ALOT MORE ABOUT CALLING/SETTING UP,  AND I HAVE THE *censored*TIES LUCK. I'M STILL IN THE LEARNING PROCESS THOUGH, AND MAKE LOTS OF MISTAKES.

SO WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS SOMETIMES IT WORKS OUT AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T,  JUST KEEP AT IT,  CHANGE UP ON CALLING SEQUENCES,  LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES, AND EVENTUALLY YOU'LL START GETTING THEM.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm hunting private land. I've also got 2,000 acres about 30 miles north of Pasco on road 68 and 3,000 acres to hunt by Mesa. All private. I'll keep at it! It's still a great way to get into the outdoors and enjoy a day off

Wind is always in my face. I wear a balacava facemask and my camo is good. I'm usually nestled into some sagebrush or in some cat tails so if i wasn't even wearing camo chances are I wouldn't be seen      I'm still trying to refine my calling and considering purchasing a decoy to get the attention off of me.

I think we are all going to need some pics of your area, your hunt set up, and maybe your rifle. Sounds like you are doing it all right. Keep at it, at least you are out there. Can't make it happen if you aren't showing up.

Sounds like you have a good idea of the fundamentals, Stay with it!! Might be your calling. I like to do allot of bird in distress sounds Most yotes have heard the jack and cotton tail before

Just got back from the eastside we called 13 in four days and the next four days we never saw another coyote, had one bunch answer my howler but couldn't get them to move.

 It's been a tough year your setup sound's good just stick with it.If you can spot one glassing from a road before you move in and start calling it will increase your odd's

This time of year can be hard to kill them. Even a lot of the top notch coyote hunters. Have a large reduction in coyote kills during this time of year. A lot of the coyotes that get shot this time of year. Are opportunity coyotes, not a ton being killed with calls. Keep at it

Keep at it and don't get discouraged. 15 years ago you could get a coyote to answer a squeaky car door, now adays you are going to have to be more versatile with your calls. Get a couple different ones and stay away from the rabbit distress they are the most over used. If you have private farm ground try more domestic animal distress. Try and match the animals typically around the farm. Domestic house cat closer to town, Mesa has a few sheep herders you might try an ewe distress, eltopia has a lot of cattle try a calf distress around there.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to learn some different calls and mix it up a bit. I'll be headed out monday tuesday and wednesday and I'll post on my results! Hopefully All that will be needed is a pic of a big old wooly coyote

I would say definitely get a decoy. I use a rabbit decoy and everytime I get a dog to come it they are totally focused on it. I had one come and see me and spook and still came back in because it was watching the decoy. 1st dog I ever called in came to a mouth call and stared at the decoy the whole time. I personally am sold on the rabbit decoy for sure!

That could be part of the problem.
While it is good in theory, it doesn't always help while hunting yotes.

You might try watching the downwind side just in case they are coming in but catching your scent.
