Turkey Hunting
« on: May 02, 2008, 09:39:35 AM »
I know this is the varmit section.  :)  I went out this morning, just up behind my house.  I have a nice flock of 13 that have moved in with a couple of nice longbeards and a couple of jakes.  Anyways snuck out of the house at 0440, got to the top of the hill around 0455, nothing, not a peep.  I think they have moved down towards a chunk of state land on about a  mile and a half from my house.  Anyways as I'm cresting the hill next to the cell phone tower a coyote bust out straight down wind of me, at about 25 yards.  I start to raise my gun and out pops another one and tackles the first one and they start rolling around playing right in front of me.  Bad move on their part!  I smoked both of them!  Killed the male outright with the first shot, and crippled the female with the same shot.  She rolled around and then started back for the woods and I finished her off with a second shot.  Coats were pretty sorry so I left em.  Figure I saved all kinds of critters today.   :)

Probably left a litter of pups to starve in a den near by.

Male and female together this time of year does not add up to pups in my experience. Maybe late mating??
