Grouse Hunting Areas!
« on: January 23, 2011, 05:45:02 PM »
I get a lot of helpful information from this forum, so I would like to share the areas that I heard were really good for grouse.  There are roads off of Monroe Camp Road in Snohomish that seem to be doing swell.  There are roads on the west side of Lake Roesiger and roads around Carpenter Creek I hear are doing well.  I don't hunt grouse anymore, but I notice a lot of people are looking for good grouse roads in this area.  Hope this helps and I appreciate all the information you guys have shared with me. :)

Eh, I always like to give tips on areas via a private email, to reduce the chance of destroying the area with too many hunters. In the open forum, general areas seem ok, but not too specific... Just my opinion...

True- and I would also recommend Western Washington for grouse, especially ruffed grouse and blue grouse.

One dinner at the Riverside after a days worth of hunting and they would never hunt anywhere else. The grouse hunting isn't bad either. I am 300 miles away too, but wish I wasn't.

I know. But I know most guys won't come over here for a stinking bird when I hardly ever see them. Maybe 4-6 a year. 600 hundred miles round trip @ $ 3.25 at gallon @ 15 mpg. I wouldn't. Riverside sounds good now....

We are actually a little NW of you. Couple miles off the border. If you can get into the springs and ponds at the higher elevations, there are actually quite a few grouse out there. I spent the first four days of the season at the cabin last year and easily limited out all four days. Just like anything else, takes some work. if I didn't have so much fun out there I probably wouldn't drive out for a few birds either.

Mile 90 - 130 of the Parks Hwy in AK! Great roads off of that section since we are giving out area  :chuckle: All spruce grouse.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Are up Nicholson ? We ride our ATVs up there. Good country, huh. I just don't like grouse.

I find the WDFW Small Game Harvest Reports to be a good internet scouting tool. In the case of forest grouse, match the counties with the highest reported harvest with say, a National Forest (ie. public land) and you have some good areas to scout for grouse:
