I-Kam Video Sun Glasses
« on: February 03, 2011, 04:08:12 PM »
I am thinking about buying the I-Kam video sun glasses, I was wondering if anyone had used them, or formed a opinion on them? I have found them for about $135 new on E-Bay, which is about thirty dollars cheaper then in the store, and I was wondering if they are worth it.

I mainly want to use them for my tree stand deer hunts, coyote hunting and bow-fishing!

Thanks

They are intresting, I don't think you can zoom or focus them, much if any. Wholesale sports has them, might be a good place to check them out up close. There are a few vids on the net with them. Don't think they would be much on high quality vids, from what I have seen on line. But if you just want a decent vid they should do o.k.

Nice to see another bowfishing guy on the site. There are a few of us on here :IBCOOL:

I dont own one, but was considering the option

They had an comparison online bwteen the I-Kam type (sunglasses with camera) and other 'mounted' types. The biggest complaint seemed to be that your head moves often and easily, so the picture was all over the place, while the mounted-type (as long as pointed in the right direction) seemed to be preferred.

If I was in a tree stand, I'd probably go mounted camera too  :twocents:

I got a pair givin to me in trade for some sheds and I have not used em yet, but I cant wait. I think they would be awsome for duck hunting, get to watch your shot when you get home, might be a good tool. I was thinking about wearing em tomorrow if i go hiking and film myself pickin up bone, but that might get pretty boring :)

Good deal! Me and him have talked a few times about it. He should have a pretty sweet rig next year as well. We have a child board just for bowfishing. Make sure you have him pack and camera, to share some pics

They work real well for duck hunting, blowgun hunting and I would imagine anything that is going to be close up.  I have a pair unfortunatly I had them sent home so when I get back in July I will posting some videos.

I field tested a pair for a nonprofit organization that was auctioning them off.  They are okay.  Not near as great as they report them to be.  Absolutely no customer service so if you buy them make sure it is someone who guarantees them.  They are not water resistant.  Movie quality is pretty good if you consider the lens.  Everything look farther away that it is.  Overall I had mixed feeling.  They are not as the manufacture reports at the same time I have a great time stalking elk and deer in the O.P. to get video.  Took a little practice to learn to work.  Unfortunately I had a lot of great footage that was corrupted in the ikams so was unable to view.  Would I buy a pair, probably if I had the disposable cash.  However, there are other options as mentioned earlier that will deliver a better product.

For a few extra bucks why not step up to an HD camera? At $179.00 I would think this is a better deal, plus it could be mounted while in a tree stand.

The problem i have with walmart, and I am not sure it will exist with the I-Kam bein's that it is a Huge brand, is that bigger companies like samsung and others make a cheaper version of their product then ones that you would see at sears or best buy, or something of the sort!

i.e. a t.v made by samsung, for walmart is a cheaper version with a different serial number then one made for best buy or sears, or wherever! But like I said earlier I don't know if I-Kam would do that or not!

It makes me seriously wonder why walmart sell them less than buying them from the maunfacturer directly..  I wouldnt doubt it. i may just call I kam and ask if thats the case.

I bought a pair of these on line for $90 and tried them out a couple of times. You do have to move your head very slow - which is hard since you tend to forget you have them on.... I tried them fishing and at the trap range and even at my boy's basketball game. Not bad for the price and super easy to use!

I've a contact that has these, and they are pretty good (he's in the local Kent area).  i think he has a few videos on his website from the camera during hunting season.  They would be great (IMO) since if you wear them, they see what you see (especially when you have your hands full with bow/rangefinder) on stand.  You can check them out on www.teamgohunting.com under archery.

Be courteous to all but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence;

Yeah they do pretty much see what you see - but I have notice that the cameras perspective is slightly higher than your real view. I have looked down at something in my hand and it does not show on the video, like my call remote or something. Also like when I was looking at my buddy holding the fish, I was looking right at him but the camera looked pointed over his head. But I can either look downward slightly or reposition the glasses a little lower to make up for that. They are so easy to use, you really dont even notice them at all, they are like regular sunglasses - except for the fatter arms. I really like them so far.
