The Smiling Elk Pose...
« on: December 22, 2010, 11:07:26 PM »
For future reference...

I asked my taxi if he could recreate a pose from a magazine picture I had.  The pic was of a bull that was just finishing off a bugle and was resuming an up right pose.  The picture was cool because the bull had steam rolling out of his mouth, and he had this really intense/focused look on his face.  Anyway, my taxi conceded to my idea, and we decided to take a semi-upright form and make some small mods and open the mouth.  The taxi work was great, but I think my idea fell short.  At certain angles (mainly from the side) he looks like he's smiling at me :chuckle:.  It's kinda cool, but he'll probably get bumped from my front room wall this spring...I opted for a more traditional pose with my last shoulder mount.  Since we live in a small house I think the future trend will be to mount the bull above the dining table for the duration of time that we are eating his steaks...:chuckle:

Moral of the story...if your taxi tries to hint to you that your idea might not be practical...listen to them, they get payed to do what they do for a reason :chuckle:

You can always have it fixed.  Or just find a hanging location that forces you to view him from the front.
Nothing witty here.... move along.

Try a cigar in his mouth, you know, like those dogs playing poker. Then make up some wild story about it.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I think he's more luaghing than smiling.

A buddy of mine mounted a pheasant and it was terrible, he says it's what they look like right before you see them, just tell people that :chuckle:

I really don't think it's all that bad though.

lol at this lodge i fished out of in alaska... there was a moose that had a "smile" kind of like that.... it was hung above a huge stone fireplace in the main room.... every night there would be a cigar/cigarette, toothpic, or a rolled up piece of paper immitating a joint in its mouth.... sometimes there would be a bent pair of sunglasses or a hat
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright
