Jeep in high buck hunt?

I just opened the map books to start planning out my spring/ summer scouting for deer (high buck) and bear.  I am looking tips on places that are good hunting and jeep/ hike in.  I am thinking, I will take the jeep in as deep as I can legally go and set up camp.  If I am not in a high buck GMU at that point I would hope I am a reasonable hike from one.  I have a jeep that is set up very well, if it is a 4x4 trail and I can fit between the trees I can get the jeep there.  I plan on scouting lots this summer, I am looking for some tips or a general area to check out.  I am not looking to crowd anybody’s sweet spots, just looking for a little help and direction.

Iheard there were old jeep trails that could take you all the way to Stehikin on lake Chelan all the way to either Granit falls or Darrington, can't remeber.

As far as I know all High Buck Hunts are in Wilderness Areas.  Vehicles = Jail/Fines etc...

Most of the wilderness areas I've been in have a boundary marker on the trail.  You can park at the trailhead and set camp, then hike in half a mile to a mile to get to the actual wilderness.  If you're hoping for meadows and alpine, the hike is usually a little bit farther.

I know of some places that have 4x4 trails that look to get close to the GMU boundaries.  I am not stupid and am not talking about taking my jeep up a hiking trail.   I was thought that thinking out of the box is not a bad thing and might get you a good animal.  I am planning on legally jeeping into a spot close to a huntable GMU, setting up camp, hiking in a bit and hunting.   I would much rather hunt areas that are off the common paths people take (hunters and hikers).

Nope.  No trails like that exist today, better off on foot or horseback.  There is a trail network that does what you suggest, but not for motorized use.

Not to poke at your Jeep, but any Subaru will get you as far as you can legally drive to hunt the high hunt.  I'd plan on getting in good shape and putting many miles on foot.  Happy hunting.

I know of some motorcycle and jeep trails that border some wildernes areas but they are not open for high buck hunts.

Not to poke at your Jeep, but any Subaru will get you as far as you can legally drive to hunt the high hunt.  I'd plan on getting in good shape and putting many miles on foot.  Happy hunting.

I have a hard time getting my buddys to go wheeling or riding, so I end up going alone. I know its not smart, but I like to ride. Besides, if I did not come back, at least I am where I like to be  (yes that statement always pisses off the old lady)

I'm sure you're right.  I should have re-phrased that on behalf of the "eastern" side.  I just never think of the high hunt going that far over...

Only if I ever get a goat tag, and then still, I doubt I'd make it out in one piece!

OK, thanks for the help…  And for the record there are some nice areas that people can only get to in 4x4’s, horse, or foot that get you real close to areas to hunt the high buck.  I was hoping I might find others that new of these places too, and might be able to swap info.   I have not hunted high buck this way for 5 years and am planning on starting up again this year.   I did not try to offend and apologize if I did.  Good luck.

I know there are some jeep trails off Blewett and the Alpine is not too far from there. But without looking at a map I couldnt tell you if you can get very close or not. That is the only area I can think of. I know a few guys who ride motorcycles to somewhere near the boundary and then hike in.

From Blewiett Pass East there are a lot of trails...some pretty rocky, as in sharp rocky...all the way to Ellensburg.  It's one of my favorite areas.  To the West   Last time I was up there the road was closed, with a large barrier sign pretty well planted.  You can still go up from Scotty Rd but I haven't explored to much that way..
