Slinging Options

OK...I spend a lot of time with a gun on my shoulder AND a pack on my back... I HATE how my pack straps interfere with my sling... pain in the ass... Have any of you tried the Safari Sling, or the "Gunslinger" or the Kifaru Gun Bearer? Will they solve my problem?
Thanks! I fear nothing will solve my problem and I will have to suffer for many years to come.....

Eberlestock pack?? Kill two birds with one stone.
I have a Kifaru also, and don't care for their gun bearer and end up packing my rifle on my shoulder when using that pack. In my opinion, the kind of sling you use can make a big difference on comfort. I strictly use the Butler Creek sling that "gives" (or has stretch in it). Very comfortable, even with a 13lb+ set-up.

I use a Safari Sling and IMO it works well and doesn't interfere with my pack at all. They aren't expensive, try it our and if you don't like it you aren't out much.

I use the safari sling also have camo and the black one I would recommend the regular one over the camo because of the grip strips on it the camo one's didn't come with it when i bought mine so it slips all over.

I don't use my Eberlestock scabbard very often, but for the pack in or out in the dark it works pretty good.
Every year, I see a couple companies at the Big Horn show that have a set up that looks intriguing, but I never buy any of them. The one that i have watched is a belt system that attaches the stock to your hip and you use the sling like a normal sling. Hard to explain, but I call it a stock leash.
I will be specifically looking for this set up this year, so I can report back in March after the show.
Nimrod makes this one, but I didn't like it when I tried on their pack.

I purchased the gun slinger and love it. Now all my hunting partners are hoping they get one for their birthday.

I have a Safari sling, and liked using it hunting in open country, but it doesn't work for me on the West side. It does work pretty well with a pack.

I'm fitted with a Maxpedition Gearslinger Monsoon pack with a single point sling. Works great for me since the single strap goes cross body on my right shoulder and the sling goes cross body on my left shoulder since I shoot lefty. Then again, I'm also packing an AR for hunting, so IDK if this setup would be for you.

I can't remember the name of my sling, but it is sort of a tactical sling. Carry it around neck and shoulder versus over one shoulder. Hands free, when you need to shoot simply lift up into shooting position and the sling drops off the stock. It is super light weight, the lightest I could find before I bought a pack with a scabbard built in. I still use it, it is absolutely perfect for spot and stalk type hunting. Used to throw is up over the pack frame and let the pack hold it versus lop sided shoulder stuff...

Have you tried having the gun muzzle down? It should change position of the strap. Also you can shoulder the gun a lot faster then normal.

Hornseeker,
I haven't tried any of the slings you mentioned but I have tried a few different traditional style slings over the years and since I put a Butler Creek on my 270 15yrs ago, I haven't even considered anything else. I've since put one on my 338 and another on my 30-06.

Get one called "The Claw" - standard sling but this grippy rubber material that stays on your shoulder MUCH better than any other sling.

I made a very simple device that works similar to the gun bearer. It is a pocket that holds the bottom of the stock and a quick release strap up on my packs shoulder strap. It takes all the weight and is every bit as quick to get on as a shoulder sling. I did forget the strap once and made do with para cord and it was fine too.
