Just picked up a used Remington Mountain rifle in 280. It has the 22 inch barrel. I thought about having it rechambered in 280 AI but I think barrel length is too short to make it worthwhile
Suggest any loads for this rifle. I think 1/9 twis. Would like a heavier bullet

I have had a 280 for almost 20 years in a 700 mtn rifle. I have had the best luck with 120-140 grain bullets and Reloader 19. H4831 would be a good place to start as well.

If you go to the heavier bullets, say 160's and 175's, you might consider something slower yet like IMR 7828.
Godd luck,
Gadwall.

i reload with a Nosler 140g ballistic silvertip and IMR 4895. Very nice shooting and will put down the Mulies or WT's no problem. Longest shot on deer 320yds. smoked it!

I'd start with H4350 and a bullet weight anywhere from 140 to 160 grains. I'd probably start out with a Barnes bullet and with that I'd go light (140). The other bullet I'd consider would be the Nosler Accubond and with that I'd go either 150 grain or 160 grain.

I've had my best luck loading for my .270 with IMR 4831 and IMR 4350 for my 30-06 so either one will work great for a .280. I might add that since Hodgen re-did some of their powders a few years back, I tried H4350 against IMR4350 and Hodgen won in my 30-06. Better accuracy and slightly better velocity. The new Hodgen meters much better than IMR does. Both are extruded powders but the Hodgen powder granules are much shorter cylinders.

Thanks guys for the input. Will start with the 140's. Might try some 160's too. As soon as weather is a bit better will get out and experiment

R22 works great out of my AI, both 140 NAB & Barnes TSX. Use 7828 as stated above with 160s.
