Water proofing a ground blind
« on: February 28, 2011, 09:13:35 PM »
I just ordered my first blind for hunting. I plan on taking both kids this spring and fall and figured it would not hurt to have a little extra help in keeping the kids movements concealed . I bought one big enough for a couple chairs/stools and tall enough for me to stand in. I read a ton of reviews prior to buying this one and it only had good reviews  :dunno:. None of the reviews on thi blind had a significant issue with water coming in the blind but we live in Washington! Since I want to make this as enjoyable as possible for the kids and myself I figured I would ensure its ability to keep the moisture out before we use it. I was looking at the spray on sno-seal but was hoping some of you guys had either experience or knowledge as to what would be best. With my luck what I would choose would turn my blind into a blaze pink mess that would be visible for miles :bdid:. Any thoughts?

A couple good coats of sno seal will work for a while if you aren't moing it constantly.  Re-apply often if you move it a lot.  make sure the first couple coats dry all the way. some seam seal doesn't hurt either.  :twocents:

Any of the waterproofing sprays should work just fine.  Ours doesn't seem to drip.  You should have your all-weather gear on anyways I would think, this is WA afterall.   ;)  We have a couple of those short three-legged folding stools that I keep packed with it.  They don't have backs but keep you up high enough to see decently and are light weight.

Good luck and have fun.

I purchased a Primos ground blind last year. The fabric did not leak or condensate at all but the seams were a different story. There were pen (not pin) holes running the length of all of the seams. I had considered running a bead of shoe goo or a thicker tent sealant to try and plug the holes but decided against it because it would have void the warranty. Would love to hear what you come up with on this. Keep us posted.

I bought a primos double bull dark horse last year and havent had a problem with water leaking though the roof yet. Primos makes a spray on water repelent, thats also a uv inhibitor. What blind did you get?
You sure you know how to skin griz pilgram
