Went out saturday morning, and had a good amount of snow fall the night before. I was glad to make the first set of tire tracks up the moutain
Did a hard hike in, kind of hard to go through clear cuts in the snow, too many unseen holes, and roots. I set up my decoy, put my speake under it, and laced the log with coyote urine. Set up about 50 yards away from my set and waited for the action. A few minutes into my sequence, I thought a I saw a fox but wasnt sure, it happened quickly. Then a hour of nothing, so I got up and started the sequence all over. Just as it started I heard barking, and baying, the sound just kept getting closer and closer. Finally some spotted hound dogs appeard, and went straight past me, and I dont beleive they saw me. The owner of the dogs came shortly after, and he saw me. We had a little chat, and found out he was running raccoons. Didnt see a single yote that day, or sign, maybe next time.
pic 777 look between the branches and you can see my yote decoy
pic 778 the view to the left of my stand
pic 779 my camo that didnt fit the snow too well

To me the worst part of a stand in the snow is noise control. Shift just a tad to use binos or to shoot and the snow makes such loud noises.

I'm not sure if I can see your decoy? Is it one of the Kojo coyote style and just about in the center of the pic with one small twig branch over the top of it?

How well does that work? Does it really keep their attention focused on it when they see it? I use a rabbit decoy, little furry one that shakes around and they just freaking stare at it! I think I could do jumping jacks and they wouldnt even notice me! It drives my dog nuts too.

well you can do what I do. I put it in rotting tree stumps and if the wind is blowing it will slowly spin or move back and forth. If not I take some fishing string and tie a few duck feathers to its mouth.

That is a good idea. But mine is battery operated and it sits on a stake. It has a little vibrating motor and that makes wobble back & forth & spin around - I usually soak it in rabbit urine, either on the tail or a napkin that is stuffed inside. The coyotes seem to really like it.

Ok so your talking about the western rivers decoy? I have one but it just doesnt seem to work in the deep woods of western washington. It worked great when I was stationed in Nevada, and Cali where it was visible above the praire grass, and desert shrubs.

Mine is called a Quiver Critter, dont know if it is made by Western Rivers. I was thinking about getting a fawn decoy kinda like yours, like the Fawnzy by Montana Decoy.
