Weather and the Moons Effect on Bears?
«
on:
May 22, 2008, 07:12:27 AM »
I wanted to get some input and thoughts on the following:
This last weekend we found ourself hunting in 95 + degree weather (a sudden change).
In addition we were under a full moon for most of the weekend.
I can't help but believe these 2 factors would cause most bears into a Nocturnal feeding mode.
Anyone have thoughts on this subject?

I think the heat would cause them to slow down quite a bit. But I usually pay no attention to the moon. A lot of guys do but I don't simply because the seasons are relatively short and I don't want to miss days due to the moon. I didn't even bother going out though because of the heat last weekend. I figured they'd only be active early and late in the day because of the heat, plus I really don't want to mess with packing out a greasy old bear when it's 90 degrees outside.

Temperature will effect your hunting for bear, the moon will not in my opinion. As mentioned on here before they are ravenous. They will eat almost 24/7, only sleeping when it gets to warm to eat.

If it means anything I shot my bear on Saturday at 1:30 Pm and it was 90degrees out, and he was feeding heavily, just got lucky I guess.

I'm with ya bearhunter, I don't think it matters to a bear, rain, sun hot or cold. I've seen several in the middle of the day, with the sun beating down on em.

I feel that the last thing a guy should worry about when patterning bears is the weather. They are gonna eat. I've seen more bears in the middle part of the day than any other time. Just my

Thanks guys for the input, I guess you just can't get over the "Right Place, Right Time" factor. On a positive note, the Full Moon makes the Horse ride back to camp in the middle of the night a lot easier.
