What should I do?
« on: March 12, 2011, 05:24:07 PM »
I'm new to coyote hunting and I'm not sure what I should do with a coyote when I kill it. The last one I shoot I just let lay. What do you guys do?

Sounds like you already know what to do with them. I bet most people including myself leave them lay. The little amount of money you may get for a good hide, just doesnt seem worth the trouble of skinning, stretching, packing out the coyote. Give yourself a pat on the back, and know your helping out the wild game populations.

What no yote in the grinder pic? I laugh everytime I see that. I was sure you post them up. :chuckle:

If you shoot them in a area that is farm ground. Make sure you take them into another area, that not. Don't just leave them lay. The bones will get scattered threw out the farmers fields and they will be pissed

I hunt a valley pasture area and just drag them back up into the tree line away from the main grazing area.

That is a good tip.  I never even gave that any thought before.

I am a farmer and the other posters are correct.  Do not leave the dead yotes in a field.  Could cause real problems with some crops.  Just think about what a vegetable harvester digesting a dead yote could lead too.   I always drag them out of the field and leave em in the weeds somewhere or bury them.

Well handled prime coyotes sold pretty good this season.  I've heard of really good coyotes nearing $90 and avarages around $30.  It might pay to learn to proccess your fur in the future.

Also they make nice trophys and it costs about $22. + shipping to get them tanned.

Here's four from our last hunt ready to go to the tannery.

Here's a batch just back from the tannery.  I ripped the tail off, got in a hurry.

Better than hauling them around in your truck for weeks on end. Until they don't even look like coyotes!  :chuckle:

Yea I saw a guy at work with a yote in the back of his truck that looked like it had been there a while. Don't think too much of that myself.
