WWPHA March Meeting Recap
« on: March 12, 2011, 07:11:27 PM »
A quick rundown.

We had a great meeting today.
We discussed plans for a membership drive at Cabela’s next weekend and hammered out a staffing schedule. We discussed some proposed changes to the WWPHA forum and a few ideas for future events.

We had Brian from Olympic Arms show up and tell us about his business and discussed how we can work on projects together. He brought a rifle for us to look at and he even brought in hats for everyone. Thanks Brian & Olympic Arms.

We also had Donny M. and Dave B. from WA Dept of F&W present a slideshow and commentary on cougars, bobcats and lynx in WA.

Some general info was given out and it is estimated that on the westside the bobcat density is as high as one per square mile versus one per five to ten miles on the eastside with an estimated statewide total of about 10,000.

Today’s harvest is 70-80% lower than before the hound and trapping ban/initiative and the primary food source on the westside is mountain beavers.

I would like to thank Donny and Dave (and F&W in general) for coming out and spending an afternoon with us and leaving us with all of the past study documents. They will make a great addition to our association's library of materials. I would also like to thank them for the encouraging thoughts and ideas presented to the WWPHA so we can be heard by the department.

Daing I didn't know there was going to be a meeting today.  If I would have known I'd have gone.

Yes, it was a very good session.  Donny M and Dave B. of the WDFW did an excellent program on Washington native cats.  A lot of us found new information.  Animal density, characteristics, current studies, and feeding habits were all explained.   wealth of information.  Many thanks go out to both of them for their efforts.  We all saw a side of the WDFW most do not get the opportunity to see. The WWPHA will be developing a better working relationship with the WDFW from this session as they do now recognize us as an established Association and will be seeking input from us in the future.  This is a win-win situation.

Brian S. (owner of Olympic Arms) introduced a new line of AR's they are working on which grabbed everyone's eyes.  There is a whole new world developing in the black rifles and they have the cutting edge in the field.  We will be working on setting us a WWPHA session where Brian and Olympic arms will bring and demonstrate many of the different weapons they produce. This I am sure will interest many hunters.

At the Cabela's Spring Outdoor Days, we will be having a table promoting the WWPHA.  We will have membership specials and will be raffling off a 1 day guided Child's predator hunt.  Please stop by and see us.

Over all, the session was great.  We had 2 new members join, covered much Association business and had a great presentation.  Thanks to all that came and we look forward to many more.

Are you not a member anymore? I thought you were going to go over tuning calls at the next meeting?

Another cool thing that was told to us is that F&W will be adding some new features when you log in with your WILD ID. Any day now they should be implementing a feature that shows the age of any animals you submitted teeth for. It should show the age and the additional +/- years designator.

Rick:

Answered you message on WWPHA site.  But just in case, it is May 14 at the TSC in the lower class room.  Same place you did it last time.  I was told you were all set.  Sorry for any confusion.
