Winners Choice
« on: May 19, 2008, 09:43:47 AM »
Anyone swap out their string and cables with the Winners Choice ones? I have an 06 Mathews Switchback XT and was considering changing out my stockers. They are in excellent shape, and I know the tiger twist or barracuda or whatever they come with are good, so is it worth swapping out? They claim better accuracy with the WC.  :dunno: I think they cost around a hundred bucks too. Also, I have always dealt with Rainier Archery, I like the shop, but its kind of a long drive from Gig Harbor. Anyone ever go to the shop in Belfair?? Never been there, but was curious what kind of reputation they had.
Thanks!

I switch out my string and cables before I even shoot the bow for the first time.   I believe in winners choice strings 100% and wouldn't use anything else!  They will be about $100 for the complete set string, and cable for your bow.  If you get various color options you can add about 10 to 20 bucks extra.

I have to take your advice on that after seeing those nice bulls you and your dad smoked in EBJ!! Congratulations by the way, looks like you guys had a killer hunt. Where do you go to get your work done or do you do your own?
Thanks

I do all my own work on my bow and my dad does his own... I worked in a shop for about 3 years and after learning all the necessary things there, we bought all the equipment for the house and my dad made our own little shop so we could do everything there.  Works out pretty good I must say! haha  If you ever need any help with anything, I'll try and be of some assistance to you! haha

Thanks for the offer! I do the majority of my own work on my bow but I have never taken it completely down (plus I don't have a press) Seems simple enough, but I'd always be second guessing myself with the string and cables :chuckle:

Winners Choice is definitely a great upgrade, if you're not excited about spending the $110.00 for a set of WC strings you could try a set of Vapor Trail strings ($40 - $50 less than WC), my experience shows them to be very close if not as good as the WC.  I've shot both and love both just thought you might want options.  The set I have right now is a custom color (no charge for custom colors) with at least 2000 shots through it and the peep is exactly where it was when I set it up.  When you call them you will have your string in 2 - 3 days.

I would encourage you to start doing all your own work, it gives you a few things:
1- It ensures you get the level of workmanship you expect
2- It adds another element to the sport
3- It's satisfying to know that you've done it yourself

You also have a wide range of options for a bow press from inexpensive portables like the Bowmaster (Slow but gets the job done) to high end professional models and a ton in between.  There is a ton of good info out there that will get you started in the right direction.  Don't know if its appropriate to post this but archerytalk.com has a ton of advice most good some not so good but a great resource.  Mathews also has a forum with some good info.

I bought a set last year.  You wont notice any huge difference in performance.  I paid 80 for mine delivered.  They are good strings, just dont expect anything big from them.

Looks like I know where I'm takin my bow now to get it worked on!  :chuckle: It just so happens I could not only use a new bow but it sounds like I'll be needeing new strings and cables.  ;)
