That's awesome! I checked out that club a couple years ago, pretty cool. I never did make it up there yet but started my own wannabee tyee club up here after landing 30+ from shore. Rules are basically 12 lb test or lighter and no boat, first one to catch a 30 gets a case of beer from every member.

I have heard alot about it but don't know anyone that has personally been there. It seems I have seen them alot at the different Sportsmans Shows.

painters is an awesome lodge... on the way up there, you pass the buzz bomb factory. its right on water near the river mouth, and they fish out of 16 foot boston whalers. at night they drive the boats right up into the dock, so in the morning you get in the boat and they push it off of the dock. they have private cabins or cheap rooms and the walls of the main lodge are lined with hundreds of pictures with people posing with trophy kings... everybody including john wayne

catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.

Back in the day it was the place to fish. The Cowichee Bay run were big fish. Most all the really good salmon fishing is gone now on the inside. IMO, heading west to Tofino, Ucelete, Bamfield and the like are your best bets to catch 30 plus pound Chinook. Not many go thru Campbell anymore. The runs were too easy to target by commercial fleet and almost decimated.
Painters is real hit or miss for BIG Chinook anymore.
