My son's new 270
« on: March 22, 2011, 07:55:45 AM »
I had a great Sunday with my son and my hunting buddy.  We worked up loads for my son's new (to him) Remington 700 in 270.  This was his first lesson in reloading and he used 15 grains of Trail Boss (measured by the scoop) pushing a 130 grain cast lead bullet from Moyer's Cast Bullets.

With his stock cut down to fit him (thanks to Hyde) he had a fun time with no recoil problems.  We only got 20 rounds loaded to make sure we had time to get to the range and we were shooting at 25 yards to check the sight and make sure we were on the paper.

He was gracious enough to let me take two shots and both went through the same hole.  He now has to get his shooting up to the level of his rifle, but we know the accuracy is there waiting for him.

We wrapped the day up with burgers and shakes at Small Fryes in Fall City.  Definitely time well spent.
We need a crusade for the children, a children's crusade.

I've got test loads sitting on my bench for my son's rifle that 'I' get too shoot at my next opportunity. After that, it's he and I to the range for some serious trigger time.
