Regarding Camping, you must camp in designated camping areas, and they require a free camping permit from the Forest Service.  Camps I would recommend up on top are: Ridge Camp, Snow Lake Camp, Margaret Camp, Dome Camp.  These all have views of the unit right from Camp.  Basically up on mt margaret, if the elk are on the north side of the boundry trail and west of the Whittier Trail (dont hike this trail unless you are very experienced) you are legal.  Here is the link to getting a camping permit should you need one.

You are correct, Whittier is a sub unit of the Loowit, but you can hunt the margaret unit for deer, so east of the Whittier Trail, etc.

Been puting in for those 2 units since they started issuing permits. I have 13 points. Kind of sucks...

Every year someone on here draws one of these tags, then they ask for help and we never hear from them again.

Good luck on the draw and if you draw we want pictures...
